I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…
My Cross Country/Track coach is one of the best men I know. He not only betters his runners by teaching us, but he also runs with us. Pushing us to greatness with words of encouragement, he implores us to leave all energy on the course/track and teaches us to be exceptional people outside of running. He expresses to us that no matter what we do, he will always be proud of each member of the team; therefore, our actions can’t change his love for us. That’s why it was devastating when he told us before the past track season, that he would not be able to coach for the remainder of the running season from February until we initiated winter conditioning November.…
I once thought I couldn’t believe in myself! I felt as if I were nothing but a sheet of glass that was completely useless. When there were gloomy days, I felt like broken glass that was scattered all over the ground and I wouldn’t be fixable. So I thought if I joined a sport, I would then, have no choice but to believe that I can do more and accomplish more, and be better than whom I was! When I was little I loved to run…
One year ago today, the first ever Greeley Cross Country Championships was hosted, a 5k race at Josephine Jones Park between the five high schools in Greeley, Colorado- Frontier Academy, Greeley West, University Schools, Northridge, and Greeley Central. Last year Frontier placed first at the meet in the boys race. However, since then their top runners graduated and the Central boys became a real threat to many teams. Although today was mainly a way for Central to come out on top, I wanted redemption from the poor performance I gave at that race. Last year.…
I’m starting over again anew something different now. The last run was great while it lasted. Day one back at practice was pretty rough, hitting balls endlessly at the range brought upon old bad habits. It made me realize how far away I was from my former swing, the consistency, strength, and concentration it had brought me. I had now found myself with a rugged backswing and an upbeat tempo.…
Before Brayden arrived to pick me up, I worked both of the horses for a hour each. Afterwards, I bushed them and turned them out to the field for the day. They deserved a day off relaxing and grazing under the sun. Before turning them loose to their own devices, I spray them down with fly spray on and slip their fly masks on. Both horses trot around the field before settling down to graze.…
Running All scars have a memory to go with them. Some are great tales, some are little stories, and some are just little slips while you are making dinner. But every scar gives the person who has one a story to tell. Running. I remember running.…
The novel, Runner, written by Robert Newton depicts a world of survival as its theme. Survival is when you are able to endure hardships and tolerate suffering. It is being resolute no matter what circumstances you are in. Proof of this is demonstrated in Runner through the financial destitution experienced by the Feehan family, Ma’s recovery from Mr. Peacock’s callous attack and finally, Charlie’s precarious job employed as Squizzy’s runner. All these factors about the life of the Feehans contribute to the topic of survival.…
It was one of the most rainy days of the summer of 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I had one of the biggest soccer tournaments in my life. My team was invited to this tournament called The Friendship Cup. This tournament was a six team tournament and your team has to be one of the top teams in your state to be invited. My team is called Blitz United and at this time we were top three in the state of Oklahoma. It was an honor for my team to be in this tournament…
About a year ago at this time, I was training for the NYC half marathon. I’d never really taken to running in my life, despite always being pretty active. This was different. After I’d recently lost my mom, running connected me to something larger. When the cold winter air came into my lungs, I knew each breath was all I needed to keep going.…
You decide to take a jog you put on your shoes lace them up and head out the door. You take a few stretches and start running throwing your arms in the air pumping her legs and breathing in and out. You as you run with the Lake on your right-hand side the sun beaten on your face. Trying to keep your mind clear of all thoughts you continue this pace for some time you start to sweat breathe heavier and your legs are starting to burn. You realize you ran longer than you thought you actually ran to a supermarket a little supermarket.…
We all have something to be passionate about. Whether it's a sport, a career or a hobby, everyone has that something that they do and love that is deeply woven into our lives. This "thing" is so important that taking this one "thing" away would tear any person apart. My passion, my hunger, my "thing" is running cross country. There has never been a moment wasted on my sport due to its inherent ability to build a person's character and teach the athletes the importance of goal setting.…
My sophomore year of high school, I received an award for Most Improved in cross country. That day I felt on top of the world. As a matter of fact, I felt on top of the world that entire season. I was never athletic, as a matter of fact, before joining Track the year before, I had never ran more than three feet in my entire life. The first day of cross country was an awful start.…
My sophomore year of high school, I had recently join the track team and was beginning to become very competitive in the high jump. I had already trained for 8 months before I was approached with a dilemma. I was going to have to choose between going to a track meet, and participating in my stake’s trek event. After much thought I decided that I would risk my spot on the team to attend the trek. It wasn’t until the roster for the following week’s meet was released that I learned that my coach had me replaced for the rest of the season.…
I lined up watching who I would have to race against, including my fellow teammates. As I watched the lineup of runners there were runners older than me, my age, and younger than me. We all got to the line my heart thumping continuously till the official raised his gun. Then we all waited for four words “On your mark” and “GO”. After these words were said we raced off.…
