Running Into Yourself Book Report

For my outside reading book I chose Running Into Yourself by Jean-Paul Bedard. Personally I really enjoy this book purely for the reason it is about running. A person that doesn't enjoy running most likely will not enjoy this book as much as a runner would. The book is about what you think about while you're running, how running can get you out of mental situations, and about working towards your goals. Running Into Yourself starts off talking about running a marathon, the climax of a running career. Every runner eventually will want the chance to run a marathon, a normal person won't be able to run a marathon, you need alot of training and alot of dedication towards the sport. From Jean-Paul’s words “...You may moan while you're out there, but the second you get back in your house after a …show more content…
Most of us will never get the chance to run a marathon, rather finish a marathon. From middle school most people can decide if they want to run a marathon, if they have the power to train and run every day. Running a marathon would be a surreal experience to us and be put in the fiction section of our brains library. Getting to read the story of a normal runner getting to the point of running a marathon and after the marathon was really cool. It was just like for a cross country race… just on a smaller scale. His feelings about finishing the race we're the exact same as the ones that I have. When you think about finishing a race you think about going and eating the best hamburger of your life and laying down for two weeks. When he finished the race all he wanted to do was go home and rest, no eating the best hamburger of his life. The next day, he had to go out on another run so his muscles didn't tighten up. It's the same feeling with cross country races, after an event the next day we still have practice and take no breaks. We have to learn to stick through the pain and just keep

Just about to doze off, as a breaking news flash blared from the television, something huge had happened at the Boston Marathon. Small portions of videos were broadcasted on the television showing people running and screaming for their lives. Not everyone was able to get away unfortunately, people had been hit by the two bombs that caused mass destruction at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Bang, the gun sounds. I sprint out of my box, following teammates in pursuit of the leader. The pack of cross country runners appears to envelop me from my parent’s sight. I hurdle toward the first flag, passing competitors right and left. All the rest is a blur, just the pounding of my heart and the thumping of feet as I run, breathing heavier and heavier, twisting and turning through the trails to reach the chute.…

The two runners in front of us ran for Lakewood Catholic Academy and we 20 yards in front of us. As soon as we finished the second part of the rocky terrain of the woods, the finish line was standing 100 yards in front of us. I suddenly began to ignore how obnoxious the fans were until I saw my family standing right next to the finish line. One of the runners and I were still neck and neck until I threw him for a surprise. I sprinted as fast as I could, leaving the runner in my dust.…

When I got my number and was waiting at the starting line I felt nervous. “So Chase, are you gonna be in cross country when you’re older?” This was the big question from when I was in fourth-grade all the way up till sixth-grade because my brother and both of my sisters all excelled at running. Ever since I was little and even now, I always had an endearment with sports that involve running, including Track. In middle school when I was in seventh grade, I wanted to participate in Track because I knew I would enjoy the sport. Track started in the spring during seventh grade, and the first couple of practices I thought were challenging and very arduous because of what little practice I had before Track had even started. All the new athletes joining our school track teams were callow and juvenile in the experience we had within the sport. The coaches were very meticulous, punctilious , and information on tips to assist us in what area each athlete wanted to make quintessential.…
