This movie depicts a common theme amongst many families across America today where the family dynamic is anything but ideal and is often disconnected. There are only fleeting moments showing the family together, as for majority of the time they are leading separate lives. Initially merely a client, Ms. Clara is an influential character is instrumental in not only bringing light to the significant focus on the negativity within the marriage, but in teaching Elizabeth how to fight for her marriage as opposed to against it by submitting to God. It is through this change and genuine commitment that the health of the entire family begins to restore.

The sadness in Danielle was apparent, which confirms the significance the parent’s relationship has on the children’s sense of security. Because it depicts how our lives have been for some time, I was able to connect with this movie in a very personal way. Moreover, although my faith has always been true the movie did inspire me to not just pray for guidance, but for patience.

However, this movie did confirm the considerable impact a parent’s actions have on their children, which is demonstrated in the scenes that shows Danielle’s “war room”, which is a testament to the fact that children learn by what they see more so than by what they are told, thus we must lead by example. “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity” (Titus 2:7 ESV).
Were there any scenes that you strongly agreed/disagreed with on a personal level and why? While I did not completely disagree, the scene where Ms. Clara interrupts Elizabeth while she is divulging her hardships and suggests she not focus on the negativity, to pray, and not engage in with Tony. While I agree it is not beneficial for anyone to focus on negativity, the hardship can one to feel isolated, thus a lending ear can be healing. Furthermore, I believe not addressing concerns and burying them can be contributing factor to dwelling and/or ruminating. However, I strongly believe and can attest to the strength and validity to the power of prayer.
