The following first source focusses on precisely what it implies, barefoot running. The video clip compares the advantages of running with and without shoes. The video inaugurates with the author Ruben Meerman stating that due to absence of shoe usage in humans for hundreds and thousands of years, ‘some’ people may think that running without shoes how humans should be running by default (Meerman, 2012.) What catalyst has most likely attempted to do is provide these people with a second point of view in terms of the new barefoot running phenomenon, thus they are the likely the target audience.
The clip proceeds to show tests that are conducted comparing the performance between running barefoot and with shoes (Meerman, 2012.) The results indicate that there are adverse effects associated with running with shoes, the author recommends being cautious and aware when changing from shoes to barefoot running, due to changes in muscle use (Meerman, 2012.) Evidence for these claims is backed up with usage of expert insight, and experiments conducted to test the effects of running with and without shoes. Force of impact is also analysed through sensors on the floor, the claim being that running with shoes increases this impact, the implication likely being that it could likely cause greater injury (Meerman, 2012.) The source provides good insight into one specific study, but does not reference any other studies maybe showing contrasting results. I chose the article, “Prospective comparison of running injuries between shod and barefoot runners” by Allison Altman and Irene Davis. The reason for this paper is that there are two contrasting ideas on what is better for running. Some people believe barefoot running is better because it reduces impact loading and promotes foot strengthening. Shod runners believe that barefoot running is associated with increased injuries due to the lack of support modern day running shoes provide. Barefoot runners tend to forefoot strike when they run while shod runners have the cushioning that allow them to heel strike when they run.…

In fact, Marathon and Beyond states that “running a marathon is a musculoskeletal nightmare” (Emmett). It takes between 30,000 and 50,000 steps to run a marathon. Every time the foot hits the ground, a stress three to four times body weight is absorbed by the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back. Will Satre revealed that the pain doesn’t start until around mile 18 when his legs start to cramp and there is some lower back tightness. Meanwhile, older Mr. Ken Satre notes that one his “last marathon he did not have any knee pain.”…

Obliviously her success is based on these bionic legs and not her dedication to the sport and effort she’s put into training. Mr. Riley is using this logical argument to help the audience understand and question why we contribute her success to these and not able-bodied athletes. When the word ‘culture’ is mentioned most people don't think of running. Instead it seems that when culture is being talked about many people think of different countries, ethnicities, or religions, but usually not the running culture. Running is in fact a very real and serious culture, and it is shaped by many people, places, and things. One ‘thing’ or artifact, in particular, is a GPS running watch. Nowadays it seems like every runner has them, and if someone doesn't have one directly on them it is at home charging, or they are waiting for to arrive in the mail.…
