The first Aesthetic choice in the composition of the shots in the industrial scene sets the geographic location of the story in Cape Town by show casing Table Mountain in the Background. This icon of the cap hints the audience at the character’s location and sets the story in being a part of the South-African Culture.
Runner makes use of culturally associated items in the same way the Calabra Festival in Nigeria makes use of culture associated artifacts, fashion and entertainment to promote the Nigerian identity and culture. (Ekpenyong :2012: 289) The use of the specific colour and shape of the Black Label beer associated to South-Africa and generally South-Africans who can indulge in alcohol. The portrayal of the use of “Dagga” by Freddie reflects the general position of South-Africans towards this habit especially with the new policy regarding the personal use of cannabis in the country. Even as white males in their early twenties they are different from the white males shown in American or European movies.
