run·ning
ˈrəniNG/ noun the action or movement of a runner

A single part of my life, and yet so significant. Something I never desired to participate in, and now a piece so vital to my entire existence. I began running after being encouraged by friends to join the middle school cross country team. I began as he slowest team member with no previous experience. Each day that I was not able to be the best, I thought I had failed. These continual losses eventually numbed the part of my soul which feared failure like nothing else. Soon, I came to Cross Country not to be the best but to be with friends. I met dozens of individuals that shared my goal: to improve. Running is not about being the best. Running is not about winning. Running

At some point in time in their development, most people encounter an adult figure, who instills a positive change in their lives. For me, that person was Cindy Scannella--my track and my cross country coach for my first two years of high school. With her unique approach to coaching, Coach Scannella not only gave me the confidence to flourish in the sport and lead my team, but she also gifted me with a love for running. This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Her presence in my life has truly altered my life for the better.…

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

Dare, A Regretful Education Have you ever wondered how the D.A.R.E. program worked in the United States? Well I can tell you this, if an officer that is involved with the D.A.R.E. program is trying to show you the impact of a substance, then why do you see them doing that same substance while off duty? They are either smoking a cigarette or guzzling booze until they are downright wasted, if this is the kind of inspiration that helps you stay away from substances, well it’d work better than what you’re learning from D.A.R.E. A multitude of people believe the D.A.R.E. program should be replaced with a different program that provides a new/better way to fight substance abuse, others believe D.A.R.E. should be able to help in the education…

This change in validation support motivated me to train harder, leading to an eventual increased performance. From there, I signed up for more races, increasing the distance every time. My newest goal is to run a half marathon in the spring.…
