4.1 RUMAH REMPAHKARYA & RUMAH TURI (PAULUS MINTARGA)-EMBEDENESS
Rumah Rempah Karya and Rumah Turi are two connected project designed by Paulus Mintarga as the architect and also the owner. Rumah Rempah Karya is meant to be a place where creative design community can meet and hold various activities including their work exhibitions, while Rumah Turi is commercial hotel building. The basic architectural concept of the architect was to promote and showcase local expertise and works to the world. Adapted meaning of Rempah (spices), Paulus attempted to capture the spirit, which “Rempah” symbolizes.
This building as one of an example of embeddedness point for creating the more sustainability architecture by integrating local materials, used material, local craft, on site water resources and local labor to produce all materials in this building design. Apart from that, by involving the surrounding communities through the building design process and construction, it also created the community and cultural engagement.

The architectural designs only used 20% of ttal land mass, the 80% lest is for green environment and water catchment area. None of the trees on the site were cut down. There was also preservation of the topography, which is descends at a relatively steep angle to a natural pond. The existing natural pond also has been conserved and is cleaned by filtration and water plants as a strategy for rainwater harvesting too. It is as a response for one of Jakarta environmental risk, flooding.
Besides ecological sustainability, the planning provides shared landscaping and generous communal facilities around the pond, such as a yoga room, community meeting place, barbeque facilities, pool, jogging track, children’s playground and sun
