Kelly Aune, Sandra Metts and Amy Hubbard analyzed the strategies individuals used to manage the outcome after deception was discovered in relationships. The research was conducted by utilizing 210 completed surveys from individuals, (87 men and 123 women), representing several ethnic groups, with a mean age of 38.5 years. The respondents completed surveys and assessed which items they felt were relevant in their attempt to repair damage to the relationship caused by the deception (Aune, Metts, & Hubbard, 1998, p. 682). One of the post-deception findings was that relational repair was positively correlated with the deceiver’s use of apology, discussion, soothing and relational work.
