This year in English 1010, I have learned how to incorporate transitions words into my writing. The text in “Rules for Writers” defines Transitions as words that help an essay flow from idea to idea. They help the reader better comprehend what has been read and what is about to be read (Page 64). Finally after in class discussions and worksheets, I feel that my papers are already beginning to make more sense. In the future, I plan to use transitions throughout paragraphs and to separate thoughts in order to fix my choppy writing style. Now I can read my papers

Thanks to our experience in composing outlines, my writing is better organized and more concise.…

The flow of my essay helps my reader understands my evidence and connects it to the point that I am trying to get across. One of the essay I fail at transitions is the Science, Nature, and Technology research paper and it was a bit confusing even after I define most of the words for the reader. It was just a hard concept to grasp an understanding of that I have in mind but couldn’t connect one evidence to another to create a better understanding for the reader. In the Science, Nature and Technology research paper the flow of the essay was disrupt from the beginning of the paper in return confuses the reader. However, in another paper I was able to work on my transitions to create a nice steady flow because having a steady my reader can connect one idea to the next.…

I’ve never worked as hard or as passionately on my work as I have done this year, and my new found way of doing my work is what made me grow as a student. As a reader, I was able to advance my way of reading, considering how I read way more into the text and note patterns too. This is probably because you manage to drill into my head the sort of guidelines needed in order for this to happen, such as if an author thinks something is important he’ll repeat it. Due to these lessons, I changed how I wrote my essays since I became even more invested in my writing. And I became a bit more confident in my writing due to my friends who complimented my writing and you who believed in me and in my writing.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

Crawling, the stream of blood running into my mouth distracting me from getting to the phone. Slowly I feel my mind slipping, and the only thing I can think of is reaching the phone before I go unconscious. The pounding of my heart beat is exhausting, but I am in reach of the phone. With everything left in me, I dial the only number I can remember anymore. Each ring seems to take longer and longer, but over my heartbeat I heard a faint “Hey Nanny”.…

Although my writing has improved, I still need to work to create stronger transitions between paragraphs and new thoughts within my papers. When this semester first started, I struggled to support my thesis throughout the entirety of my essay. My first paper, the narrative essay, is a great example of how I struggled. The topic of this paper was a book that was significant to me. I had a thesis for this paper which stated three different ways the book had impacted me, however I found it challenging to expand upon these three topics within my paper.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

Before entering English 101, I was not sure what to expect in my first college English.
