Solution of the Dilemma Using the Primary Schools of Ethics
In my view, this situation is best explored using the rules-based and the care-based primary ethical schools of thought.
Rules-Based Approach
According to rules-based ethical analysis, one’s belief should be a general principle or practice while considering the inability to predict and know all the consequences of the decision or action you have taken. It encourages one to stick to their chosen way of thinking and principles.
From this angle of thought, the court mostly suited the rules-based ethical approach since the natural parents had a right to reclaim their daughter after proving that they had overcome drug abuse. At that point, the court was not in a position to predict and foresee the natural parents slipping back into drug use. It also could not tell the exact consequences of giving the child to the natural parents with drug abuse history and taking away the child from the foster parents. The foster family would best suit this ethical approach considering their action of accepting life with the little girl as an act of humanity. However, they don’t have a right to make bids for their exclusive right for the child with the natural parents being ready to take their child back. They should imagine themselves in the shoes of the natural parents of the girl and think whether the court decision would make them
