Rules And Controls In Ayn Rand's Anthem

“Anthem” by Ayn Rand is a book from the perspective of a character named Equality about a society where everyone that lives in it is completely equal. No one is aloud to think differently than each other or have unique thoughts or talents. There are multiple rules and controls in this dystopian society which everyone has to follow. These rules exist to keep everyone under control. The purpose of everyone in the society is to work until they die and repeat the cycle. To begin, there are many rules, or laws, in Equality’s society. These commandments include do not love one of your brothers more than the other, do not think independently, only do the job you are assigned, always stay on schedule, and many, many more. These rules exist to keep everyone maintained and in order. The people that created these rules are the elders with the advice from the scholars. Equality breaks these rules by loving a girl who works close to him, builds his own invention, and breaks multiple more regulations. Later he gets caught and sent to The Palace of Corrective Detention which was like a jail. He got caught sneaking out of his home at night to work on his light invention. I believe that their purpose is to work until they die. This is how the society is kept maintained and in proper order. If no one worked in this city then they would have no purpose because no one cares about one specific person more than another and no one is more unique than another, the society would just die off. But, if there are workers then the city can still survive and it can grow bigger and brainwash more people that might not be in the society. Everyone's main purpose in this dystopian city is to work and grow stronger together and repeat the
