In Lord of The Flies, a group of boys is stranded on a remote island form a microcosmic society that eventually plummets into disarray. Whether this outcome is the product of a biological process in their maturation, or rather an environment-provoked phenomenon, facilitated by their social contributions on the island, that is the question. In this novel, there are lengthy symbolic themes that mostly point to the inherent nature in all human beings. Despite the fact in The Lord of The Flies, the children gradually transform from being civilized to savage and ritualistic, what makes them change isn’t a social effect that the situation or the boys impose on each other, but rather a biological predisposition that is exposed after the degradation of the civilized functions that the boys have been reared on, otherwise known as “nature”. Nonetheless, the…
The five indices of age are chronological, biological, functional, psychological, and social. Norman and Ethel exemplify, in their own ways, all five indices starting with age. Ethel, being in her late 60s in the movie would put her in the young-old division of old age, while Norman who turned 80 would be part of the old-old division of old age. Ethel seems to be, by all parameters, biologically healthy without any noticeable heart or physiological problems. Norman, on the other hand, has some heart conditions, which becomes evident when Charlie brings over his heart medication in the mail and he says that he has palpitations.…
The journalist, Judith Martin, states “The greater the controversy, the more you need manners.” In other words, no matter a person’s position on someone’s beliefs, they should respect them regardless. Some people have a plethora of negative opinions of Family Guy, whereas others are huge fans. In Antonia Peacocke’s controversial essay, “Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious,” she portrays the belief that Family Guy is actually more logical and less ignorant, than people believe. I would have to agree with Peacocke because some people fear the things they do not understand, hence their dislike of Family Guy.…

Keith E. Stanovich, the author of “How to Think Straight About Psychology,” explains different aspects of psychology to his readers in the first chapter of his book. He starts off by stating how Sigmund Freud is a fraud when it comes to psychology. Although Freud’s work in psychology is so little, he is the reason why many people misunderstand psychology. Then the chapter begins to talk about how psychology is composed of different topics and studies, and when there are many different topics it is difficult to link all of the topics into one. When psychology is often discussed, many people do not consider it a science.…
Through a psychological perspective we can analyze actions people take and determine why they acted the way they did. Experiments such as Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiment shed light on the great lengths people are willing to go to for an authority figure. When his research first came out it was believed that the “banality of evil” was the cause of the subject’s behavior, however new studies suggest that people’s willingness to abide to authorities is conditional to the belief that the authority figure is right and they should do as they are told. When examining Milgram’s shock experiment, we can evaluate the subjects who participated and how the power of the situation affected their behavior. We will also compare the findings in this…

As I sat and watched this movie for the second time in my life, I could view it a little differently than I had before. The first time I watched this, I was with my roommate who absolutely loves this movie. She talked about how amazing it was and finally I gave in and I said, “Let’s watch it.” I watched it like I would watch any new movie, paying attention to the story, not knowing there was a real science behind it. This time when I watched it, I could see the story from a whole different angle.…
