Ruger 10/22
Shooting cans with a .22 rifle is very satisfying, and is the first step many shooters take into sports like hunting, recreational shooting and competitive shooting. Time changes, as with most things, ideas and philosophies progress with each new generation. It is no longer taught to squeeze the trigger, rather press the trigger. Shooting at cans isn’t as acceptable as it once was due to the large amount of accumulated trash by left by irresponsible recreational shooters. Although, some things have not changed

In this paper, I will explain how I perceived the article Gunsmithing Requires Innovation, written by Paul Mazan; American Gunsmith April 2015. In the last 100 years firearms manufacturing, has evolved in leaps and bounds. Like any other industry many manufacturers have come and gone. The issue gunsmiths and hobbyists alike run into is that once a manufacturer has been closed for decades upon decades it can become near impossible to locate replacement parts, or donor guns that match weapons that come into your shop, thus putting you into a situation where you improvise and find a way to make it happen or become the Gunsmith that can’t do the job.…

This week’s reading in Gunsmith Kinks was one that I believe could do a lot of good for someone new to shotgun choking. Before reading the words of V.M. Starr in our reading this week I had next to no knowledge about how to choke a shotgun. Mr. Starr went on to explain that “his first experience choking a shotgun was in an old blacksmith shop on the farm in Ohio where he was born”. He stated that he and his father “took a shot-out muzzle loading rifle and bored it to about 24 gauge and worked a choke into it”. I wouldn’t in a million years think to turn a shot-out rifle into a shotgun.…

Guns 101 is filling with me more knowledge that I will utilize from now on. Video of the week, I really like the guys in the video. Learning about gun shop etiquette was, for the most part, something that I already do as second nature. When “Steier, page 96” says “No one is ever shot with a loaded gun” is absolutely the truth, but I have never heard anyone say that.…

Instead of the regular smoothbore muskets, the Springfield 1861 was invented using the new minie ball. These bullets were shaped like a cone with a hollow inside, and on the outside were three grooves packed with grease. The groves would give it a spin while coming out of the barrel which made it more accurate. When the bullet hit, “It didn't just clip the bone the way the modern steel-jacketed bullet does; you didn't have any bone left up there.” (Foote)…

Throughout the book one of the things that I was able to see is the repetition of the saying “ Ready, aim, fire!” Where at first I thought that this saying this not have any meaning behind it. But after seeing the repetition of it It made me understand how it had a meaning. One of the things that I was also able to see throughout the book is how the author integrates significant issues from the past. An example is when Kenny and Rufus play the World’s Greatest Dinosaur War Ever.…

The primary motivation behind the Second Amendment right to bear arms is for protecting one’s family and place of inhabitance. However, it remains unclear as to whether guns are really used for self-defense. Siegal et al. studies the correlation between stranger and nonstranger homicides in an effort to determine if guns are used as a means of self-defense more often than not.
