Rudy Giuliani Challenges

Rudy Giuliani, began his career in law enforcement and eventually made his way to running for mayor. In 1989, he ran for mayor as a Republican against Democrat David Dinkins. He lost this campaign but this did not upset him. He eventually, ran for mayor again in 1993 against Dinkins. This time he focused on a plan to boost the city’s morale by attacking crime. He won the election by a narrow margin but he was now the mayor. This was his first critical challenge because he was able to overcome defeat in 1989, to win in 1993. Another critical event Giuliani faced happened in his first few days of becoming mayor. Police received a fake call claiming there was a robbery at a mosque in Harlem.
