Ruby's path started when she scored higher than all the first-grade students in the district. This little girl was given the chance to go to a white people school to get a higher education than she can get from her school. Ruby was afraid as well as excited to start at a new school with new students. It was not an easy change for Ruby. Her first day of school Ruby was not taught. All the teachers did not want to teach Ruby because of the color of her skin. She did not look at the people while walking into school because she was told to not look at anyone. She remembered how proud of her they are. Remembering what they have told her. “You are Daddy's brave little girls” and “God loves you”. Remembering these words helped Ruby to keep her head up and not listen to the words being yelled at her. Another thing that helped Ruby have courage was her teacher. Ruby's teacher believed Ruby could do anything. Her Teacher did not let the color of Ruby's skin stop her from teaching Ruby. She did everything for Ruby, so Ruby could have the best education that she deserved. This belief in Ruby's learning paid off when Ruby's scores came in at the end of the school year.
