Her father lost his job not long after Ruby began going to the all-white school. Their everyday stores began banning them from even entering the store. After winter break, Ruby began showing signs of stress. She’d have nightmares and would go to her mother at night for comfort. She also stopped eating lunch in her classroom, she’d want to eat with other students. So, she’d hide her food in a cabinet in the classroom, but this led the marshals to find cockroaches and mice who found the food. After that, Mrs. Henry would eat with Ruby. As time passed, Ruby would often get to see the other children at her school, and then finally there were no more U.S. marshals to escort her around and to the school.
Eventually, Ruby graduated elementary school and graduated from Francis T. Nicholls HIgh School in New Orleans. Then she began studying tourism at Kansas City Business school. And later on in 1984 she married Malcolm Hall and had four healthy sons. Ruby Bridges helped lead us to the freedom we have now.
