When attending the Rubin Museum of art, the first thing I found out, was that the museum was once a department store called Barneys. When we started our tour around the museum, we first started at the top floor called “the world is sound”. While being there, we learned a lot about Tibetan Buddhist’ ritual of music. This exhibition explored the different dimensions of sound and listening, and its many functions in the Tibetan Buddhism. The first floor we had gone to, which was the fourth floor of the museum, we learned a lot about the musical dynamics of the empire. We could see the instruments that they played and much more. The first thing that I was introduced to at the Rubin Museum was the Heart Sutra Mantra. This was part of the museum …show more content…
In this floor, we learned about a man named Henri Cartier-Bresson. He was a poet and dancer originally from Java which is now known as Indonesia. India had just attained independence Britain in August of the year 1947. At the time of independence, India became majority Hindu but constitutionally a secular state. At least one million people were killed and hundreds of thousands had become refugees. Across the globe, people use ritual and spiritual practice to connect with worlds beyond their immediate experience. This iteration of Sacred Spaces is dedicated to a selection of these transcendent and devotional practices. The Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room re-creates an immersive sacred space in which visitors can encounter the art as it was used. We were able to listen to all the different sounds and music by composer and musician, Pauline Oliveros. This floor also featured a Duddhist Shrine room, here we were able to experience real Tibetan religious art in its real cultural context. There were many things in the shrine room such as, altars used in homes, temples modeled after a wealthy household shrine. Here we saw many objects, which gave us a clearer understanding of their religious practices, teachings, and daily rituals. In the museum we also learned and saw firsthand the works of famous photographer, Henri Cartier- Bresson. Here we seen pictures, articles and many other things from Bresson’s 3 year long trip to Asia. At …show more content…
I most enjoyed the world is sound part of the museum. I liked this part of the museum because I felt a real cleansing of my mind and body. I was able to sit down and listen to the calming sounds that were at the museum. I loved the fact that you can touch everything in this museum. I also enjoyed the Shrine room. I feel like it also helped me feel very relaxed and meditated. I was able to really see this part of the museum from a religious ritual perspective. In all, I really enjoyed everything the museum had to offer and teach. I feel it was a great and interesting experience which allowed us to better understand cultural

My trip to the Barnes Foundation museum was enjoyable and informative. On my trip, as we moved through the galleria I was astounded by how the rooms in the galleria were arranged. It was not like your average museum, with one or two paintings on the walls with a description of it underneath. Instead, there were rooms with paints all over the walls, along with iron work that correlated with the pieces. Our tour guide elaborated on how he did not wish for there to be a description under the pieces of art stating their background.…

Another thing that surprised me was the amount of information that was supplied in the museum. The museum was a two level building and honestly I was expecting one room. The things that fascinated me the most were the pictures and the secrets behind some of the most prominent features of Chicago. Did you know that the time on the green clock of the…

Another piece that I enjoyed in the exhibit was Matt Bollinger’s work “Storage.” I thought the way that he used acrylic paint and collage, really went well together. So well, that it was hard to differentiate where he used the acrylic and where he added items. One of the pieces that I didn’t care for was Thomas Kiefer’s print “Satisfies!” The print was a picture of several different types and sizes of Snickers.…

Due to my unpredictable work schedule I had to forgo the planned visit. I was slightly apprehensive about this, because I wanted a personal tour, which they offer on planned visits only. After signing the guest book in the front foyer of the museum, I was greeted by a young, knowledgeable volunteer who was more than happy to show me around. It was unusually slow that day so I had the volunteer’s undivided attention, as she did mine. She ushered me through answering every question and explaining each section in greater detail.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

Each of these exhibits are organized in chronological order. The rooms that are replicated from his houses are so peaceful and calm, it really makes you feel that it was his room you were standing in. There was also a mini theatre room dedicated to his films, it was so much fun to sit and watch some of his old films and gain an appreciation of his acting career. The room dedicated to his radio career was surrounded with the sound of him doing his radio addresses, and the walls were lined with his own personal hand-written scripts. There was also a video playing of him delivering one of his addresses.…

The piece that I would rate as my overall favorite was located on the back wall of the exhibit hall. It was very large, so that it covered most of the wall. It was a charcoal sketch on tan paper. Throughout this sketch, there were white highlighted markings, which added to the contrast of the dark, black velvet appearance of the charcoal. The work depicted a woman in Victorian-Era attire.…

I learned about the Sound of Africa; was also on display along with B.E.T network to honor the African American along with other minorities of the entertainment industry since 2001. They also had outfits of Grammy winner artists such as; Brittany Howard, Gwen Stefani and LL Cool Jr from this year. As I was about to leave the third floor I was able to run into the Latin Grammy Museum where they displayed the winning Latin Artist such as Pepe Aguilar, Camila, Celia Cruz as well as some outfits and instruments. I really liked being able too appreciate this section in particular of a Museum here I wouldn't have imagined it being displayed here. I didn't like the way the floor was set up many small booths (with the same type of music) were located throughout the floor layout was confusing.…

I was completely clueless about museums and didn't know what to make of them. I went online and read a little about the museum and found out that it was one of the top five museums in the country because of its cultural diversity and integrated urban population. The personnel gave me a brief tour of the museum and told me the museum does not hold gallery collections, but their exhibition is based on a periodic basis. The museum was also filled with visitors and their families, all engaged in a series of photo shoots.…

Both religious and museum spaces require the same kind of performance by visitors. Within museums, this performance is often carried out alone to its completion, through reliving narratives, following a recommended route around a certain exhibit or going through a structured experience that experience that related to the exhibit’s meaning or history. The exhibits in a museum are organized in a manner that they construct and convey pre-determined narratives of a version of history that only suits the interests of individuals in…

The most fascinating thing about art is the difference and diversity between works of art. The drastic uniqueness of arts between periods is something that is interesting to look at because one gets to see how much changes can be made due to cultural influences and time. After visiting the Met and seeing the works of art in person, I have chosen the Statute of Dionysus Leaning On A Female Figure and the Standing Buddha Offering Protection to explore in depth. The Standing Buddha Offering Protection is an Indian sculpture made during the late 5th century. It is only 85.5cm tall and it is constructed out of red sandstone.…
