Have you ever needed to do a certain simple task, but wished there was a machine to do it for you? The purpose of a Rube Goldberg machine is to create a complicated system in order to complete a tiny, simple task. What is a Rube Goldberg machine you may ask? A Rube Goldberg machine is an over- engineered contraption that uses a chain reaction to accomplish simple tasks such as turning on the music, pouring a glass of water, etc. This specific Rube Goldberg machine’s task is to move the last piece on the chessboard to score checkmate by using the most complicated arrangement possible.
In this Rube Goldberg machine, an outside source of energy is transferred through the machine when someone adds force to part of the machine therefore starting the “simple” task. The initial energy is transferred from through each object therefore creating a chain reaction and then resulting in moving the final chess piece. There are two main types of energy as demonstrated in the Rube Goldberg machine; potential energy and kinetic energy. Potential energy can be seen when a rubber band is stretched out, or the string of a bow and arrow is pulled back, but has not yet been released. This is called potential energy because it has the potential to turn into kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is when the rubber band is actually released and slingshots forward. Although kinetic energy and potential energy are connected and related, they are not the same. The way that a Rube Goldberg machine functions, is that there is only one time energy can be

Slide Board Product Information The first slide board was designed by Former Miami Dolphins football player Jeff Markland and his initial purpose was to use in the rehabilitation of injured knee joints (Lloyd, 1992). Markland created his own model, and called it Kneedspeed, after having seen Eric Heiden, a gold medal speed skater in the Olympiads using a similar product (Lloyd, 1992). Then, Markland associated with Kathy Stevens of Reebok and they developed the Reebok slide board (Lloyd, 1992). In the 1990s, slide board came into the fitness field which also is called lateral slide training, but it did not gain much popularity; because the lateral sliding movements seemed unnatural if you lack the inner thigh strength to boost your bodies across the board (Lloyd, 1992).…

This law is when a force is being put on an object but it isn't balanced nor equal. When Bennett pushes off the block he is no longer at rest therefore unbalanced forces are acting upon him. Bennett is the object and his mass compared to the block’s mass causes his acceleration to happen when he pushes off the block and into the air. There is also a friction force when he is positioning his feet on the block to move his feet kinetic friction is in action.…

He once described his cartoon inventions as a “symbol of man's capacity for exerting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results." Over time, Rube's cartoon inventions leapt off the pages and became real-life working machines, built purely for the joy of engineering and watching science in action. Rube's work has inspired millions to build their own complex machines that use convoluted chain reactions to accomplish any number of simple, mundane tasks. Today, Rube's work lives on in the form of annual Rube Goldberg machine contests.…
