RTI stands for Response to Intervention. RTI is a procedure that is followed, which consists of three tiers of intervention. The teacher would monitor their progress to see if they can move on to the next tier. Tier 1 is a primary intervention that usually lasts for about 5 to 10 weeks. Tier 1 can be used for all students and it is known as preventive instruction. It usually consists of about 90 minutes per day that include opportunities to improve reading. The assessments used are benchmark assessments known as running records that are given at the beginning, middle, and the end of the year. Students who are not showing progress proceed to tier 2.
