The King and his ‘Fair Queen’ were not fair at all with Maleficent. In medieval times, a function like the royal Christening is not private or exclusive to a specific group of society; it is one of the biggest social events of the year. When Maleficent cursed Baby Aurora, she permitted an escape, not a big one, but, an escape. She said that only true love’s first kiss can break the spell. And it does. In the film, after Aurora has pricked her finger on the spindle and gone into a “death-like sleep,” Maleficent gives Aurora a kiss, the first one ever, and she awakes from her sleep. All of the other fairies tried smothering her with kisses. one’s from themselves, her father, her supposed lover; however, nothing works. Maleficent’s kiss was the only kiss that worked on Aurora. This occurrence just goes to show how deep their love truly
