Even though I was not part of the police force I have witnessed many occasions of the gender discrimination in the police force. When I was involved in a car accident, there were both female and male officers present at the scene but the male officer did most of the investigation. The female officer seemed to not have any say in the investigation and seemed to be a bystander. This shows the inequality between male and female officers. Usually when there is a crime scene, male officers are the ones to be called to the scene or if a female were to go, a male officer most likely accompanies them. Also in my workplace, I have experienced sexual harassment by my coworkers. Even though I was not physically assaulted, they verbally assaulted me. They feel that they have superior powers over the females, as we are represented weak in the work force. When female workers walk by the male tend to make sexual remarks about their appearances and the sexual pleasure that it brings to them. This is similar to what Janet Merlo experienced at the police firm that she was working at. Her coworkers did not physically assault her but verbally. Another example that I have found that I can relate to is the news article on CP24 where RCMP apologizes to hundreds of female workers. In this news article it explains that this apology was for the hundreds of female officers that
