Roy Burgess: A Short Story

Decent Essays
As a kid, Roy Burgess, always hung with the wrong crowd of people which got him in trouble. Roy and his so called friends would steal cars and stuff of that nature. One day Roy was at the lake with Kevin which was one of his friends and shot him in the head, at least that is what the eyewitness said. Roy was a kid who did not make good decisions. He was lost without any direction. The story did not mention Roy’s parents that much. He probably did not get the guidance he needed. This is peculiar since his mother spent time in church. His father was mentioned in the story only when he told the police to get out. Telling the police to get out makes it seem like he loved Roy. The story did not mention him any other time. Perhaps he did not

He would be in jail for 32 years due to a failure that has become prevalent today. Incidences of withheld of evidence, false confessions, and sometimes the court errors are now a common phenomenon (Clow & Leach, 2015).…

He can’t just love Memo in his own unique way, he must be the best lover she has ever had in her life. I believe he came on too strong to Memo. He did not let her fully cope and get over Bump in her own drawn out way. Possibly if Roy would have allowed Memo to cope, she may have even freely given her love to him in more genuine and deeper way because she would have felt comforted and not pressured to make an immediate decision of her…

Emmett Louis Till, an African American teenager born in Chicago, was brutally murdered in the early hours of August 28, 1955 in Mississippi when he was only 14 years old. His case has served as a reference for the Civil Rights Movement. Emmett was born in Chicago on July 25, 1941, the city where he lived with his mother Mamie Carthan (1921-2003). In the summer of 1955, they received the visit of their uncle Moses Wright, who told him stories about life in the Mississippi delta that aroused great curiosity in the region and a great desire to visit Emmett. I wish it materialized when his mother, after having refused outright at first, finally allowed him to return with his uncle after the visit, but not before warning him about the huge differences…

At one point, he confesses to Joe: “I've had many fathers, I owe my life to them, powerful, powerful men. Walter Winchell , Edgar Hoover , Joe McCarthy most of all” (Kushner 2011: 62).
