“R”Rovers are an important part of our lives. They allow us to see beyond our earth. We made our rovers to help us understand the scientific process and how to create an experiment. Making this rover also refreshed our memory of the concept of elastic energy. Not to rub it in your face, but EarthToy Designs enlisted in our help to design this rover, too. They asked us to make a rover that can be adjusted to go different distances. Of course, we have to think about the environment while making toys, so they asked us to make rovers out of 100% recycled materials. We decided to make the weight in the ballast the independent variable, or what we would change. We wanted to see how many weights could make the rover move the farthest, so after creating our rover, we predicted “If nine washers are put into the ballast in the rover, then it will travel 4.5 meter.”

One of the issues we had was trying to assemble our rover. In some of our original designs, the canister of weights was always off of the rubber band, which made it harder to move. Secondly, we had issues trying to turn it. After finding a way to attach the canister to the rubber band, we had no clue how to turn the rubber band. Our first idea was to turn the hooks, but this became difficult to do. Eventually, we found out we didn’t hold anything on the sides and turn it towards you. One question we have is “What would the amount of turns change?” We were thinking that this would make the rover go the farther, but by how much? Double? Triple? Would it travel less? We did not get the time to do this ourselves, but theorizing about what would happen was
