Ross Stores, Inc. is discount retailer headquartered in Dublin, California that includes brands such as Ross Dress for Less and dd’s Discounts. The Ross Dress for Less department store first opened in San Bruno, California in 1950 by Morris Ross. Ross later sold his department store to a man by the name of William Isaacson. Isaacson then expanded into five more cities for a total of six stores. In 1982, six Ross Department Stores were purchased by a group of investors and Ross Stores were then transformed into off-price retail units. Within three years the company had expanded into a chain of 107 stores under Stuart Moldaw and Don Rowlett. Ross Stores Inc. is one of the largest off-price retailers in the country and is now ranked number 237 …show more content…

The code applies to all members of the Board of Directors, officers, associates and agents. Also, Ross’ business partners such as suppliers, vendors, service providers, and any other business or individuals that interface with the company are also expected to comply with the code of business and ethics conduct. All associates of the company have a duty to report any violation of laws, rules, regulations or policies to a supervisor, the Legal Department, or the Alert Line. Reporting of a suspected violation of the code is not considered disloyalty, but an action to protect the reputation and integrity of Ross Stores, Inc. and its associates. It is part of the company’s policy to discipline any associate who violates the law or code, up to and including termination from the company. Also, any associate who neglects to report known or suspected violations of the code may also be subject to discipline. Associates who violate the law or the code may face civil damages, criminal fines, and sometimes even prison terms. Not only is the associate who committed the action disciplined, but so is the company in entirety. The company may face considerable fines and penalties in such situations. At Ross Stores, Inc. associates should avoid any private interest that may affect their ability to act in favor pf the company, but if an associate were to be confronted by such situation then the company requires that the associate fully divulges the situation that gives rise to a conflict of interest. Working as an associate at Ross, one may stumble upon confidential information of the company, which includes non-public information that may be of good use to competitors and harmful to the company or the customers if exposed to the public.
