Rosmerta Argument

Decent Essays
However, Epona is not the only Gaulish deity that has a presence within pop culture. A character going by the name of “Rosmerta” was included within the Harry Potter series, being described as a “curvy sort of woman with a pretty face”. (Rowling 235) Rosmerta was also the name of a Gaulish goddess of fertility and prosperity. Rosmerta’s name derives from smert, meaning “provider”, and she is usually seen bearing a cornucopia. (Dotten 286) She bears resemblance to the character, since curvy figures are seen as more effeminate and therefore as a sign of fertility, as well as having an occupation as the barmaid who supplies nourishment to bar patrons. This character’s relation to the goddess aids in cementing gaulish presence within contemporary

In this essay I will be comparing to sides of an argument pertaining to the expenses of universal healthcare in the United States. One written by a man named Greg Olear, and the other by an anonymous author. The first batch of arguments are for a universal healthcare system written by Greg Olear. His first argument says that this is in the Constitution, stating it is the job of the president, the Congress, and the Supreme Court to, above all, uphold the charges set forth in the Constitution.…

    Toulmin Argument Analysis

The Toulmin model is an effective way of presenting an argument because it ensures that all the data presented is directly tied into how it relates to the main claim, and also in the aspect that it addresses both sides of the topic. By refuting the counterargument, the main claim of the piece becomes more favorable and logical in the minds of the audience. The aspects of the Toulmin method work together in order to create a cohesive argument that successfully establishes and supports the main claim. Seeing that I plan on entering the medical field as an occupation later in life, it is important to understand how arguments in this field are conducted. When persuading others, or attempting to do so, in the topic of science, it is crucial that…

In short, one of Lomborg's boldest claims was that cheap fossil fuels would improve lives. He reasoned that with the use of coal, countries have vanquished the spectre of poverty that haunts many, and that fossil fuels will continue to be an integral part of our daily lives. Upon closer examination of Lomborg's strand of argument, it is revealed that one of its biggest flaws is the blatant omission that several poor countries already have access to cheap fossil fuels through fuel subsidies. In fact, the biggest subsidies are in developing nations, spending more than $400 billion yearly protecting their population from high fuel prices (Stephen and Adam, 2012). Therefore, it is evident that Lomborg's argument is fundamentally invalid.…

Traditions that should be saved for future generations should be Christmas, Rosca de los Reyes, and the day of the dead, because some would teach how to share and others how to give and have fun with the family/ socialize with their future relatives. Christmas would be one because it could teach the kids of the next generation how to give. The children will be taught how to give the people in need, it would also be good to be grateful for what they’ve received, and how to share their gifts with their family and friends it can also impact the rest of the world by doing gift exchanges and etc. Rosca de los Reyes would be another one because it could show them how to socialize with relatives and cook for the family. They’ll not be as bored…

Hello Brian, I would just like to start by thanking you for your opinion it is always interesting to see how other people look at the same issue. When you stated that, “common decency has been replaced with a self-serving mentality and entitlement attitude” I knew you would have a well thought out discussion because this is very true. The point you made when quoting Ecclesiastes 3:7, “a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak” I however think this is a time for Frederick to be silent. I think that Frederick did nothing to protect his invention and there fore lost it to his professors. Even if Frederick has the slight possibility of proving this is his idea, the Bible says in (Proverbs 20:3 NIV) “It is to one’s…

The article I chose to analyze is Monica Ellen Rizzo’s Master Thesis for her Master of Science in Education titled Redundancy, Discrimination, and Corruption in the Multibillion-Dollar Business of College Admissions Testing. My reason for choosing this paper is the way she presents her argument because she provides a personal reason why she is writing about the subject of college admissions testing and writes the paper very technically which is the way I prefer to think. Her goal for this paper is to show colleges that college admission testing puts extra stress on students and lowering the stakes will improve their lives. The thesis of her paper is “to examine the biases inherent in standardized college entrance exams, their validity as predictors of…

Victor, you made an interesting point by connecting the founding of the constitution to a modern day problem. I believe that it strengthens your argument, but it isn’t strong enough to stand alone. I believe Rachael is right in saying your argument isn’t as strong as it could be. For example, you could have provided examples from executive order 9066, or some external source. By doing this, you will be able to make your argument strong and convey your point in a much more effective…

As Socrates waited for the ships to arrive from Delos, Crito proposed to Socrates a way he could escape his death penalty. This would mean disobeying the law, however Crito insisted for Socrates to listen to his proposition because he believed he still had a life to live for. The Toulmin method is a way to dissect an argument by breaking it apart to see the claim, evidence, and reasons so that the reader can make judgements on how well the parts were executed. There are lots of ideas and opinions about illegal immigration and how to correctly approach the issue to solve, however, there are “two approaches to illegal immigration that are currently being debated in Congress”. The step that should be taken by the government is giving the people what they want and not waste money on a wall, because it will not benefit the American people to waste billions of dollars on a wall when wages could increase. The claim in “Raise Wages, Not Walls”, is conveyed as how America should raise wages of the people rather than spending…

The Rogerian Argument, coming from Carl Rogers’ theory, is an effective analysis within written arguments. Essentially, it involves adopting the role of a once therapist to aid in solving or coming to a compromise of an issue. The passage “Letter to a Southern Baptist Minister” written by Edward O. Wilson, argues that religion and science could potentially join together. The author uses restatement, which just manipulates the words of the speaker to change their understanding.
