Thought very caring and compassionate, Rosaleen's desire is to transcend her skin color and gain respect.
Roseleen is very mothering towards Lily and feels love for her due to her situation. But how things were back in this era prejudice was a normal practice, whether intentional or not. Roseleen wants to try and gain an equal playing field with the white members of society and one way to do this is through voting.
During this scene Roseleen has decided to go out and vote. She also tries to comfort Lily in what T-Ray has made her do and Lily resonates with this.
