Rose And Graff Case Analysis

Rose and Graff both see problems faced by new colleges student. They have different explanations and solutions to this problem facing new student. Most students have a tough transition from high school to college, some have a harder transition than others. Rose believe that the language barrier can prevent many new college students from succeeding in college. On the other side, Graff believes that the problem is with the lack of communication between the professor and the student. Rose also believe student have trouble because they are trying to find themselves and have a bunch of different ideas going through their head. A student could have had this problem as a new college student. Rose also emphasized that students in college are not just expected to memorize the material but to apply. A new student might have difficulties with applying it because of it not being taught or expected in high school. Rose’s solution to the academic problem is to offer more opportunity to develop these writing strategies. Graff’s solution to the academic problems differs based on the student due to his base of the problem being the language barrier. Rose thinks the professors …show more content…
Rose talks about this girl named Andrea he worked with, who was a smart girl. She put in numerous hour in studying for her chemistry class, she ended up failing her class because she was expected to apply the material, which she was never taught or expected to before. Rose and Graff have a good argument about this issue and are both seen to be true in students. Rose’s problem could be seen in one student situation but not another, the same ones for Graff’s. The biggest takeaway from this article is that new student is not alone with a challenge they face. Reading this article shows that new student that most of the other student are facing the same
