Rosace Skin Conditions

Improved Essays
Rosacea is a skin condition in which certain blood vessels, usually in the face, become enlarged giving the nose and cheeks a flushed appearance. The condition often undergoes flair-ups and remissions and is usually found in people over the age of 30 years. It is most often seen on the face, but may also occur on the chest, neck, ears or scalp. Rosacea turns darker and more persistent over time, and if not treated, pimples and bumps may form. We offer Laser Genesis as a treatment for rosacea and acne.

Laser Genesis penetrates deep into the skin and stimulates the skin to produce collagen. It also heats the small capillaries, targeting the microvasculature underneath the skin and closes off the enlarged blood vessels reducing the redness in the treated area.

• Hyper-reactive skin, which is caused by inflamed blood vessels on the surface of the skin that dilate easily to any physical touch.

• Bumpy skin is caused by dilated blood vessels and localized swelling when inflamed cells leak into the top layers of skin.

• Small, red bumps that contain pus are caused when inflammatory cells leak into the sebaceous gland or pore and cause a pustule.

• A burning sensation on the skin that is caused by activated sensory pain nerves. Increased blood flow brings inflammatory substances to the pain fibers. The skin may become sensitized to other triggers such as certain skin care products and wind, sun, cold and heat.

• The face may swell when protein fluids leak out of the swollen blood vessels. When this becomes excessive, there is fluid build-up in the skin.

Laser Genesis is considered a lunchtime procedure because it is quick and has no recovery time. Along with rosacea, we use it to treat:

• Enlarged pores
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Excess brown pigment such as melisma
• Acne scarring
• Facial redness
• Scars from burns, surgery or

One effect of rosacea is that it causes skin thickening, especially around the tip of your nose causing it to take on a bulbous appearance. Your dermatologist may be able to reverse this condition with a series of laser treatments that target the thick skin. The laser affects water held in the skin tissue, which in turn affects the skin. The result is thinning of the skin and the loss of excess tissue. This treatment tends to work better in the early stages of rosacea before there is a lot of thick tissue to reshape.…
