After enduring a difficult childhood, Rosa Parks worked diligently to become the influential figure she is today. Rosa was born in 1913, in Alabama, and during her early childhood she had many experiences with racial discrimination. In 1932, at the age of nineteen she met and married a man named Raymond Parks. She attended Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes, where she later became actively involved in civil rights issues and joined the NAACP (National Association for the Advancements for Colored People).
