CURRENT STATUS: On a daily basis, Rosa Lee awakens to the effects of substance abuse. Her stomach cramps wake her every morning at about 6:30am. Due to her symptoms, to relieve some of the pain, she must make her daily trek to the clinic for her methadone treatment. The amount of pain relief involved means that taking a day off from treatment, is not an option for Rosa Lee. It can take more than an hour on some days, including several bus changes, in order to reach the clinic for treatment. But for her condition, the journey is nonnegotiable. She knows that the way she provides is not always the best way and rarely the moral way, but it is the only way she knows how. This situation may be partially due to environment and a lack of tools.
INDICATORS OF USE/ABUSE/DEPENDENCY:
Attitude and Behavior: Family is the primary focus in Rosa Lee’s life. She takes everything one day at a time in an attempt to provide each family member with what necessities and when possible, their wants. She goes through each day by taking the path that is least overwhelming. Rosa Lee understands that she is not perfect and will never be perfect. She admits that she has bad habits but shows very little concern in the area of changing her ways. We recognize that in her world, family comes first.
Social Functioning:
Recently, friends and family have noticed the occasional memory lapses from which Rosa Lee suffers. It has become more common for her to forget what she is doing or where she is or where she is going. However, they have found that a gentle reminder is all she needs in order to continue her day. The lack of reading skills has made it difficult for her to follow directions on prescription bottles. This information may provide clues leading to several of her health …show more content…
Occasionally, these two children provide assistance to their mother, possibly from a financial standpoint. The remainder of her adult children continue to rely heavily, if not completely, on their mother for food and shelter. These are the very same children that attempt to steal funds from their own mother at times. Add in a handful of grandchildren for whom she has become responsible for, and find that holding the title of sole provider, is no easy task. Rosa Lee does whatever is needed in order to provide. Most often, to accomplish this, she dabbles in illegal and immoral
