The headquarters of Roquette were set-up in Lestrem in 1933 by Dominique and Germain Roquette. In 1940s, the company diversified its range to include corn starch. During the 1950s, the company invested in the development of a range of Polyols (such as sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, maltitol) and while 1980s, the company launched the production of wheat starch. Lately in 2008, the Roquette group has been involved in the micro-algae sector. It has been ranked No.1 in France and India, No.2 in Europe and No.5 in the world in the starch sector.
The Group has a total of 21 international production sites including in 11 sites in Europe (France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy and Romania), 2 sites in The United States of America, 3 sites in India, 5 in China and South Korea. The headquarters that are in Lestrem, it is the biggest bio-refinery in the whole of European continent.
