The duke Rooster Cogburn in his film True Grit was helping little Mattie Ross. She came to him when a man Chaney her father let in killed her father for his money. At first Cogburn doesn’t want Mattie coming because it would be too dangerous for a little girl. Then when the marshal tackles her and she handles her own she is then allowed to come along. When Mattie shoots Chaney she falls into a snake pit. Cogburn comes and puts an end to Chaney for good and tries to pull Mattie out then the other Marshall that had been hit in the head hard got up. The Marshall then walked over to them and pulled them out of the snake pit. He died doing that last action. Cogburn then takes her to see a good Indian doctor. Raoul Walsh was the director for his first hit The Big Trail. Wayne and Walsh became “Friends” while The Big Trail was in production. Sadly, The Big Trail was a dud at the box office bringing in almost no money. After The Big Trail’s fail John played in grade B movies for ten years. After years of playing lower grade movies Wayne got his next big break in the movie Stagecoach. Stagecoach received seven awards for director, best actor, best supporting role, and music. His next movie after Stagecoach actually wasn’t a western he played a Swedish seaman. Around late 1960’s people were tired of good guy John Wayne.
