I choose a poem/book from Virginia Woolf ‘’ A Room of One’s Own’’,. She writes a lot in fiction. Woolf implied if Shakespeare had a sister, does she had the same opportunity as him. Woolf concludes at the end, that even if Shakespeare had a sister ‘’talent as he was’’ she will never be like him. She will never have the same education; she will never have the same opportunities as him and that she will never make as actor/writer. In ''room of ones o own'', she also talks about class, having money and privilege to sit and write alone, that she was able to shut the door and write her work in peace. Born in old Alabama in 1891, she was sent to boarding schooling Jacksonville Florida after her father remarried. She suffers from racism for the first time; she spends her childhood in Eatonville a community where African Americans could be in peace independent of white people. She received a scholarship to study AT BARD College, and she felt isolated these feelings can be attributed to her poem ‘’ I feel most colored when I am thrown against a sharp white background from how it seem to be colored by me’’. Hurston’s believes the character should be a mix of positive and negative traits. Hurston was a writer who specializes in folklore and anthropological study; she was so fascinated with Franz Boaz because of his interest in folklore. Later she traveled to the south of America, the Caribbean, and Haiti, where she gathered inspiration for many of her work such as ‘’their eyes were watching God’’. In the story of the shawl, the family is in an isolated community. She’s been having an affair with another man who she’s in love with because she’s unhappy in her married and she’s planning to leave her husband and take the babies. She is very moody; she has a lot of anger and frustration for her is unhappy in her married. Her husband sees to be scared because of her bad temper. They were trying to decide which child should stay on which child should go with the mother, the mother choose to take the daughter and the baby girl with her, leaving the boy when he was only five years old with his father and her sister. It was tough when we saw the wagon (house) it was going to be attacked by wolves resulting in his sister.
