G- This book greatly reminds me of the Cleveland Abductions that occurred from 2002 to 2013.
I can connect this novel, Room, with a true story that was made into a movie which I saw on Lifetime. It reminds me of the Cleveland Abductions also known as the Ariel Castro kidnappings. The Ariel Castro kidnappings occurred from 2002 to 2013, and three girls were kidnapped and held captive during those years. One way in which they are similar is, they both have this area where the abductees are held. In the book, Ma and Jack are held in Room. It is an 11x11 foot room in the back of Old Nick’s yard. “‘Old Nick kept me and Ma locked up…” (Donoghue 247). In the movie, the three girls get abducted and held upstairs in the attic of their kidnapper.
