Room 14: A Short Story

It was precisely thirteen minutes into the lesson when someone pulled open the door. I didn't move my body in anyway, but I did move my eyes so that I could see just who it was that was now in the doorway. A boy with chestnut brown hair in an anime boy hair cut, a tan that looked a little darker than most, army tags around his neck, a sleepy look that made him seem like he had pulled an all-nighter for an exam and a red and black flannel shirt that was inside out, stood in the doorway scanning the room for something or someone. I went back to reading because I thought he was nothing more than some kid from another class here to ruin the lesson by wishing his platonic bro-friend a happy birthday or some shit like that. I'm supposed to join this class...Unless this isn't room 14?" He said in a voice that could light up a room. The teacher sighed and rubbed her temples. "Yes, I heard we were supposed to have another student. Go ahead introduce yourself," She said then sat down at her desk and probably drank from a flask of brandy. The attention shifted back to him, the boy with the shiny white tooth smile that could blind someone if he doesn't control himself. "Hi, I'm Oliver. Oliver Newcastle. Yes, my parents own that big company, yes I am single and yes, I'm the new kid," He said as if he'd said it a hundred times before. I scoffed to myself and rolled my eyes. He seemed like the kind of kid who'd be accepted into the waiting line for being Georgia's boyfriend and he'd be skipped straight to the front. "Thanks for that, Oliver. Take a seat somewhere. Now, as I was saying before that interruption," She narrowed her eyes at the new kid who smiled innocently. "Algorithms are an important part of maths..." I tuned her out after that. Sasha, you should be listening! What teachers say are important and- Yeah no. I already know algorithms from all those online classes I took during the holidays when I was bored of hearing my parents

Room 0742 is a studio design room located in king pavilion at the Iowa State University college of design. In a way it represents the beginning of my journey at Iowa State, for it is the first class room I had ever been in as a student, and its represents hours and hours of hard work and dedication to my major. It is a rather bittersweet place with times where it became a place to put my work on display as well as a place to spend many long nights and very early mornings working and developing. The space itself physically is not a room by traditional means it has no doors and stall like walls that rise above the ground six to eight inches as well as an opening at the top.…

I chose to create a floor plan of Melinda’s bedroom because she was the main character, and I felt that the setting was an important part of the book. Although the author of Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson, didn’t give readers a complete description of what Melinda’s bedroom looked like, I made some mental pictures of what I thought her bedroom and some of the decorations looked like. Melinda was described as a very creative girl who was very artistic. Her best grade on her report card was in art class, and it also seemed to be her favorite class.…

In A Room With a View, author E.M. Forster allows readers to accompany main character, Lucy as she journeys to discover what she truly desires her life to be, even if that requires breaking social norms. Forster uses different places that Lucy discovers during the course of the novel, to not only contrast varying viewpoints but to also show how vastly different cultures and societies can deviate one's own beliefs and standards. In Giving light to influences that different lifestyles can have on a person, Forster shows how even if society has expectations and regulations, following them will not lead you to true happiness and truth. In A Room With A view, Lucy, who grew up on the street of Windy Corner in England, is used to the luxurious lifestyle, as well as the pretentious expectations that come along with it.…
