- The aim of this experiment is to find out at what age the ability to hear high frequencies begin to degrade.
Hypothesis
- As people get older the ability to hear high frequencies is much lower than the ability to hear high frequencies as a child.
Background
- As people get older, their capability to hear degrades whereas younger people like children, have a much better hearing since adults have experienced loud noises throughout their lives which degrades their hearing a little.
The U.S department of health and Human services further explain that when a noise/sound/frequency is heard, the parts of the ear (inner, middle and outer ear) all play a role in translating sound so we can hear things. Sounds are caused by vibrations in the …show more content…
As a teen, they have the ability to hear the sounds that adults don’t. The teen test subject heard frequencies up to 18 kHz, whilst the adult test subject aged 57 heard none of these frequencies played. The teen and adult aged 43 heard up to nearly the same point in frequency which was 16khz-18khz while the adult aged 57 heard none. The age difference between the adult aged 43 to the teen is much more than the age gap between both adults 43 and 57, which could possibly show that as people reach the age of 50, the chance of hearing any high frequency rapidly decrease, making the conclusion that aged hearing loss begins at around age 50.
Showing that there were only 3 test subjects, this data could’ve been more reliable if more people had been tested for each age group, including younger children and older adults. (*Mr Jackson!!! -> My experimental partners were supposed to collect data from more test subjects, which they have not done, so this is an improvised experiment test. This whole situation could’ve been avoided and we would have reliable test results if people in my group would pull their weight, sincere apologies, I’ve done the best I could with my part of the
