In “Ascending Borders” the factors that brought Ronit and Marissa together as friends was that they were both Jewish. They were just two people who got along well and enjoyed each other company. They went to the same school and were attached at the hip. But the biggest factor that challenged their friendship was when Ronit wanted to return to her homeland in Israel. I think what ultimately separated them was the distance and them living different lives without each other. Even when they did reunion, Ronit had a hard time opening up and was very dismissive.
