Going to Roncalli High School has expanded the service opportunities that I have participated in my local and school community. Service is part of Roncalli’s mission statement and has changed my perspective in life. The service opportunities that are offered at Roncalli have given me the opportunity to interact with different social groups in various environments. The purpose of volunteerism is for local communities to come together and make their environment beneficial and suitable for all. The most memorable service project that I participated in Manitowoc was at a Cellcom Cares community event. Local organizations, colleges, and companies came to help build a garden, plant trees, and flowers for those who need free fresh produce. The community turned a filthy landfill into a beautiful garden for all to enjoy. I also had the opportunity to interact with various people from different jobs while working together in harmony and making a difference. Volunteering for not only school events, but for the Manitowoc community made myself aware of the changes a group of people can do to improve their community and the lives of those in need. When a community cooperates and volunteers to make a difference, each person is helping someone else while making conversation and getting to know everyone. Knowing people in your neighborhood enhances the chance of improving the local environment than trying to change it on your own. Without volunteerism in my community, there would be a lack of communication. Communication is essential to a building a strong community because then everyone can put in input on what needs to be changed and improved to benefit all residents

I was also not aware of the many people elders that needed to see and have communication with people. Volunteering at the Senior Center allowed me to talk to the elders that attended the Senior Center. Whenever I got a chance I would sit down and listen to what some of the amazing elders in our community had to say. The impact that being a volunteer at the senior center had on others was to begin with that the cook had a lot more breaks than he would have if I had not been volunteering.…

As community service is a theme that is encouraged by St. Francis, I see that it is fitting, that I too am passionate about such an activity. During the course of the summer, I devoted much of my free time to volunteering at the East Valley Family YMCA. Through volunteering for 5 days a week and about 4 hours a day, I gained a few traits that will help me uphold St. Francis’s tradition and reputation of the community’s pride and excellence. By dictionary definition, the phrase “work ethic” is a value based on hard work and diligence.…

When I volunteered at the school some of the people there ,such as the students, parents, staff, and other volunteers, witnessed me experience something different and it might encourage them to volunteer. With all of the commotion they had when i was helping they not only learned about academics but i could have motivated them to volunteer someday as well. According to pointsoflight.org “Volunteering helps to foster greater trust among citizens and developing norms of solidarity and reciprocity that are essential for stability”. I think that this quote means that If your community members or even citizens of the U.S see you participating and volunteering to help others you will gain trust and be thought of as more responsible to them. Volunteering also can help point out some of the problems that are in your community.…
