Ronald Tanguay: My Hero

When my teacher told me that we had to write about our hero from Michigan I knew exactly who to pick. I had to pick my grandpa. His life inspires me to be a braver person and to never give up until you found hope. I wished I could have met my grandpa, but just hearing my family talk about him makes me feel that he would have wanted to meet me two, his first Grandson. Ronald Tanguay was born on June 28th, 1933 in Canton Ohio. He grew up in Buffalo where his parents lived for a little while. His own mom taught him in a one room schoolhouse when he was in elementary school. He had one sister named Aura-Lee. Sadly, his parents separated and his mom and sister moved back in with his grandparents in Dundee Michigan on a farm.Then his mom and grandma died leaving him with his sister and grandpa. He graduated from Dundee High after they died. In his adult life, he joined the U.S Marine Corps in 1951 right after he graduated. He fought in the Korean War and was active for 1 year. When he finished the GI Bill helped him enroll into MSU where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He later got a job in Coldwater Michigan at the Coldwater Daily Reporter. While he worked he met Marilyn Butler who he would marry on the 21st of October in 1961. …show more content…
On March 6th, 1964 they had a baby girl they named Michelle. Soonly thereafter they moved to Toledo where he got yet another job at the Toledo Blade. They then had their second child on September 9th, 1968. After that they had a normal life in Toledo. He liked to swim, read, ice skating, sledding and playing sports like softball and volleyball. Michelle’s favorite activity with him is when he would take his kids to the library every six weeks to check out books. Michelle also remembered when he came in on sweetest day and felt bad for my mom that nobody recognized her on that day so he gave her a flower and told her how beautiful she
