John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3rd, 1892 and died in 1973. He specialized in Old and Middle English. His father died in 1896. His mother, his younger brother, Hilary, and John moved back to England. In 1900 his mother became Catholic and then John and Hilary grew up Catholics. Then, in 1904 John's mother has diagnosed with diabetes. She died in November that year and the boys became orphaned. John later mastered Latin and Greek. Sometimes he would make up his own languages. War started in 1914 and John didn't want to go to war right away. He returned to Oxford and worked hard. He got a degree in 1915.
