The United States had been fighting the Cold War since the 1940’s. To end the Cold War, Reagan signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 1987 to avoid an armed fight and to being forced to give up global dominance.
Overall, while Reagan’s will go down in history for his exemplary actions in the Cold War, his economic policies crippled the United States. Because of his success in the Cold War, he had a high approval rating when he left office.
