This book, Up Close: Ronald Reagan, mostly focused on the fact that Ronald Reagan was awesome. Ronald grew up with an alcoholic father, this one time he came home to his father passed out in the yard, so he brought him inside and took care of him. He had a girlfriend who left him when things were getting distant, she got engaged to another man. Then Ronald hit the big time, Hollywood actor. Then his father passed away after his second heart attack, but Ronald kept moving forward, living his perfect life. Ronald and his girlfriend then had a child. Ronald Reagan also served in WWII, but they sent him back to Hollywood. Ronald and his wife divorced due to Ronald spending too much time on union affairs. He met a new woman, Nancy. Ronald took a few years off after his second term as governor. But ultimately came back to politics and went on to lead America in one of the most difficult times in American history. He led us through the Cold War, even survived an assassination attempt. "Before filming his first scene, Ronald learned that a seven-year contract didn't necessarily guarantee seven years of work. Warner Bros. had an option to terminate the contract after six months or a year if Ronald's acting didn't work out. Ronald felt a lot of pressure, especially since he hadn't really acted since college." (Pg 49) I really liked this section of the story because it showed that even though Ronald's life seemed perfect, he still had worries of whether or not he would be payed. "Ronald's father, Jack, was an alcoholic. It was an addiction that Jack struggled with for most of his life, and it led him to fight with his wife, have trouble at work, and sometimes leave home for short periods." (Pg 17) I didn't like this part of the story, because frankly, I don't care what Ronald Reagan's father struggled with. I checked the book out to read about the greatness of one of our greatest presidents, not hear about Ronald's daddy issues. "Reagan firmly believed that his job was to focus on the
