Ronald Reagan Ronald Reagan was our 40th president and regarded as one of the best to ever step foot into the office. He is praised for his Republicanism, his ability to talk to people very easily, and his anticommunism. Becoming an actor gave him the edge on his ability to talk to people as if they were his friends. A president that can talk to the people is a president the people will love. This gave him a tremendous backing to anything he did and he used this power to take down Soviet communism. He has helped make this country fantastic and many presidents after him should strive to be like him. Reagan's early life wasn't the best he could ask for. Immediately when he was elected, he took Caspar Weinberger has his defense secretary. Together they started progress on the MX Peacekeeper missile. With this and the B-1 bomber program established, America basically ended the Cold War. He was a major component to taking down the soviet empire, not just because of his thinking but because of his tactics. Reagan's strategy was an offensive one that included aid to the anti-communists, supporting movements in Eastern Europe, fighting the soviet government in Greneda, setting up the SDI, and exploiting the problems with the soviet Economy. But even after the Cold war, Communism was big in the islands of the gulf of Mexico. A lot of communism moved down to those islands and it was spreading like wildfire. There were people that fought against it and didn't like it though. That's when Reagan came up with the Reagan Doctrine. This would allow him to support the anti-communists in Cuba. This was also part of a big scandal by Reagan. He was secretly backing the Contras and that was illegal. He wasn't just backing them, but selling guns to them and also the Irans. It was highly illegal, but when it came to bite the bullet, his general took the blame. After this was finished, Reagan set his sights to the problems in his own country. A major issue with it was the fact that many Americans didn't have a job. He already didn't like citizens leeching off of the government so he got to work. He started making jobs for as many people he could. He literally just pulled jobs out of nowhere to make people do. This was people were actually working for what they ate at
