Ronald Reagan Leadership

In the history of America, there have been a multitude of great leaders and politicians, and plenty of wars and opportunities for them to lead us and show us their great skills. I, as many people do, have my favorite leaders throughout history. Today I will be writing about President John F. Kennedy and President Ronald Reagan, telling of how they used their time in a leadership role to guide our country through trials and tribulations into victory, both personal and political. President John F. Kennedy took office in November of 1960. The Cold War was under way, and he came into office with a refreshing welcome from the American people, replacing the departing president Dwight D. Eisenhower who was 70 at the time. Even as a Senator, Kennedy was bored by the issues that only involved Massachusetts, and was more enthralled with the international challenges we were threatened with by the Soviet Union’s growing nuclear arsenal and the Cold War battle for the hearts and minds of Third World nations. Nixon was a smooth-talker, but Kennedy always looked calm and relaxed, and he seemed to be looking right into your living room. People who listened to the debates thought that Nixon won, but the people watching them thought that Kennedy had won. Kennedy won the election by a very thin margin to become the 35th president of the United States of America. At the age of 43, Kennedy was the second youngest Amerian president in history, second only to Theodore Roosevelt. Kennedy was the first Catholic president, as well as the first president to be born in the 20th century. He was a very good speaker and used chiasmus to his advantage, adding the famous quote from his inaugural speech, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your
