Audrey Evans. Realizing the hardships families face when enduring long stays in hospitals, Dr. Evans dreamed of a house that would host families that were being treated at her hospital. This concept provoked the Eagles to come up with more proceeds to make this dream a reality. Murray approached Elkman Advertising company to help campaign Dr. Evans’ idea, which eventually lead to the partnership with McDonald's.The idea was that all McDonalds in the Philadelphia region would donate a quarter from every McDonald’s Shamrock Shake sold. The Regional Manager of McDonald's, Ed Rensi, agreed to this proposal if the house could be named after Ronald McDonald himself. Through the partnership of the Philadelphia Eagles, McDonalds, and Dr. Evans, the first Ronald McDonald House Charity opened their doors to families going through treatment on October 15, 1974 in Philadelphia. Today, there are more than 350 RMHC in 63 different countries striving for the vision of “a world where all children have access to medical care, and their families are supported and actively involved in their children’s care” (
