Pastor Ronald G. Garrett
Not only caring about my spiritual being, my Pastor, Ronald Gene Garrett, has really impacted my life as a young man by being an awesome role model. Through leadership, he has always leaded and instructed me down the right paths. As a righteous moral man, he has taught me to be honest in all my dealings, morally-upright, and to help my fellow man in any way possible. Most of all, not having a dad while growing up, he did a fine job filling in, loving me and making me the man I am today. If it wasn’t for my Pastor Ronald G. Garrett, I really don’t know where I would be without his leadership, example, and love.
When I was younger, I was always a leader in school; as I look back now though, I wasn’t a very good one. I decided to model myself after my Pastor, who took me under his wing and showed me right from wrong. He has been a Pastor now for nearly forty years with much more wisdom than I, so I had no problem yielding myself and listening to him. That next year, I was suspended seven times in school, run-ins with the police, and any other kind of trouble I could get evolved in. One day, my Pastor pulled me aside and talked to me, about how what I do now will affect me later on make me into someone I don’t want to be. Ever since then, he filled that void of a father I never had. Every boy wants that fatherly, manly figure in their life, and he was that figure that I would just watch and want to be like after that day. He never did “go throw the ball out back” with me, he is a very busy man, but to know he loves me and cares what I do with my life, is enough to fill that void in my heart. To this day, I consider him to be my “real”

I could not comprehend how I would balance my hectic schedule and write an essay on a topic as bleak as my name. Prior to my research, my name honestly did not have any sentimental meaning to me. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I honestly did not know the first thing about my first, middle, or last name.…

“The wisdom of admitting your weakness and correcting them through continuous learning means leadership.” – A. James. When I read this aphorism it immediately clicked with me because this is something I had to learn to do to become a good leader. A leader isn’t someone who bosses people around to do things that will just benefit them.. A leader is someone who learns from their weaknesses and inspires others to better themselves.…

Leadership can be defined as the ability to guide or direct the actions of others, so as to achieve a common goal. The lesser known term, followership is the exact opposite of leadership. Without leadership, followership would not exist. They coincide with one another and cannot be separated, for without followers, leaders would not be. In Civil Air Patrol, one is expected to be both a leader and a follower; especially as a cadet, one must report to their commanding officer while being simultaneously responsible for their own cadets.…

My Personal Leadership Philosophy and How it has Developed As a leader I am very unique. I hold strong personal values in the areas of trust, respect, and responsibility. I believe that no one person should be responsible for someone else, but that we have to grow up and learn to take care of ourselves. Prior to this course, I perceived leaders as people who told a group of people what to do in order to accomplish a task. When I was put in a leadership position I was always effective, but I never really took the thoughts or feelings of others into consideration.…

The job of a principal in any academic setting is a monumental task as students, curriculum, parents, teachers, faculty, legal issues, etc., all vie for guidance and attention. But I believe that the job of a Catholic school leader entails far more because I believe the profession of Catholic school leader is a vocation rooted in Christ. My role as a Catholic school principal is one of managerial leader, educational leader and most importantly as spiritual leader. It is my job to nurture a faith community that is built with relational trust and where my school can be transformed into a sacred place (Sergiovanni, 2015, p.12).…

It’s that phrase that makes you question, what it a leader?…

A normal person might strive to be average, to be the okay for the moment and never truly use their full potential. For a normal person, being in a leadership position can sometimes be too hard, complicated, and stressful if they are not dedicated or prepared. Each of these factors can discourage many people, people who have the potential but not the training or motivation to hold a position of leadership. I, however, believe that I have the potential, the training, and the motivation to do something amazing as the VP of District Four. As I stated, every person has the potential to be a leader, though some stand out more than others.…

The Accidental Leader: What to Do When You’re Suddenly in Charge Being a leader can happen to any one of us at any time. When we are given the role of being a leader it often paints a different image of what we look like to others based on the fact that we are in charge. We never know when a situation will arise that will call us to step up to the challenge of leading a group of a few people or a whole division of a company. The word leader can often make seem overwhelming to a lot of people but after reading Harvey Robbins’s and Michael Finley’s The Accidental Leader you no longer have to question what to do when you’re suddenly in charge. I would’ve never thought reading book on leadership would ever be helpful, after all I always thought leadership came from learning from experience, not from a book.…

I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life.
