Throughout the play Romeo is seen making reckless decisions that affect him and others around him. Romeo is able to move on as soon as he lays his eyes Juliet, even though he was previously infatuated with Rosaline, not long ago. In addition to this, Romeo also shows his lack of judgment when he choses not consider the consequences in killing Tybalt, “The citizens are up, and Tybalt is slain. / Stand not amazed.…

The decision that I found to be particularly hasty was Romeo's decision to commit suicide. I believe that this decision was impulsive and fueled by Romeo's emotions. It lead to not only his death but his lover Juliet as well. If Romeo had been more thoughtful instead of letting his grief and desperate thoughts overwhelm him, he could of created a different ending for the play, one not as tragic. Before Romeo made such a decision, he had been waiting for Friar Lawrence in Mantua to send him news of the uplifting sorts when Balthazar had told him that Juliet had died.…

In any tragedy the tragic hero is the protagonist through which the author gives insight on his view of the destructive flaws of humans. Ultimately the tragic hero causes his own downfall because of the flaws of his own human nature, but through the hero’s defeat, humanity is enlightened and shown to have redeeming qualities. Three main theories of the tragic hero are the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero. Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis, and suffering. In the Shakespearean mode of tragedy, the play Romeo and Juliet best models the tragic hero.…

Within the world of storytelling, one character that has stood out since the beginning is identified as the tragic hero. Philosopher Aristotle created the tragic hero in his book Poetics; Aristotle characterized a tragic hero as a tragic flaw, excessive pride, a reversal of fate, punishment that cannot be avoided, and the pity and fear felt from the audience (Aristotle 39). Shakespeare used the tragic hero guideline in many of his plays; not all those tragic heroes are true tragic heroes as outlined. One such character is Othello, the title character of The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice.…

“Tragedy is an imitation of an action that is complete and whole… (Aristotle 31)”. This theory conveyed by Aristotle in his renowned work Poetics expresses the idea that a successful tragedy consists of specific principles that reoccur in classic literature. The theory emphasizes that a tragedy represents reality and universal truths rather than historical particulars. This is achieved by creating a tightly-woven cause and effect chain or “unity of action” that centers around the plot rather than the personalities of the characters. Also, the plot of the tragedy should have complex, specific, and coherent turning points, that are a part of the “unity of action”.…

William Shakespeare is renowned for his extraordinary works in the tragedies he has composed. A Shakespearean tragedy is so well distinguishable from other writings that someone with little knowledge of his work could easily recognize it. Shakespeare’s signature is his use of the tragic hero: A person of nobility with several redeeming qualities that inevitably meets his or her own destruction due to a judgment error or character flaw. Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, the tragic hero in “The Tragedy of Hamlet” exemplifies his tragic flaw through three main scenes; The play within a play, Claudius in prayer, and his escape from death in England which within each surfaces his inability to act and avenge his father’s murder and ultimately leads to his…
