One of the most controversial arguments regarding the play “Romeo and Juliet” is whether or not they are really in love. Many people believe the only reason Romeo forgets about Rosaline is because she refuses to sleep with him. In my opinion this is not the case. Romeo’s previous infatuation with Rosaline does not discredit his love for Juliet because his infatuation with Rosaline was just that, infatuation.
Before getting into why Romeo was in love with juliet, and merely infatuated with Rosaline, we should analyze his character. Shakespeare built his character in a way that he is very likeable, and we find ourselves sticking up for him, even when he makes poor decisions. Romeo is a diehard romantic, and falls for girls very hard, very fast.
