The tragedy of the star-cross'd lovers in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has broken the hearts of admirers around the world, but it is speculated upon which characters are most responsible for their deaths. Romeo, Juliet and Friar Laurence are often blamed for causing these two lovers deaths. Romeos fatalistic views, impulsiveness, and erratic behaviour are causes for his death. Juliet's fatalistic views, rebelliousness and her love for romeo leads her to committing suicide. Friar Lawrence creates a dangerous plan that has a flawed approach, which in the end is not followed thoroughly. Along with Romeo’s fatalistic views, he is impulsive as well and this further leads to his downfall. He has a habit of doing things before thinking about them first because he is very emotional, and can get overwhelmed by grief very easily. Romeo hears about Juliet’s death and immediately comes to Verona to see her. Before viewing her, he goes straight to a poor man around Verona, and asks him for “A dram of poison” that will make “the life-wary taker...fall dead...as violently as a hasty powder fired” (5.1.60.63 5.1.65) If Romeo took time to process the situation thoroughly, it would have been enough time for him to see Juliet wake up. But because of his impulsive personality, he rushes to get the poison without viewing Juliet, or finding out the complete story of her sudden death. Instantly after seeing Juliet dead, he decides to kill himself as well, and he forgets to think about the consequences that may come after because of his lack of processing stressful situations.
