In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare There are many interesting characters. They all have something unique and help the play/story move forward. A character that Romeo greatly influences is his best friend Mercutio. Mercutio is influenced by Romeo because he is determined to stick up for his friend. He shows this when Tybalt threatens Romeo, and he is determined to fight off Tybalt, because he knows that Romeo is a lover and not a fighter, and will probably lose the fight. (Act 2,scene 4, 9) “A challenge on my life,” Mercutio says when he hears about the challenge. He later falls in love with Juliet. Lastly, he kills himself because he loved her so much that he could not bear seeing her dead and not being with her. Act 5,scene 1, 44) “Sharp misery had worn him to the bones.” Romeo says this because he is tired of being miserable, and just wants to be with Juliet again, even if it means giving up his own life.
